Sun 1/20/13 At sea
In the afternoon we went to a pool party. We played games and swam. My team won a game where people threw a plastic
ball into a pair of long underwear that someone was holding. I then stuffed the balls into the legs of the
underwear. I won a coffee mug and a pin
(that said Amsterdam, the name of the ship).

Mon 1/21/13 Easter Island – Rapa Nui

| 15 Maoi |
It’s a small island, 63 sq miles. That’s smaller than our hometown. It is one of the most remote islands in the
world. We took a small boat, called a
tender, to get to shore. The waves were
very big. Several of the tenders were
damaged by the waves.

| Maoi with eyes restored |
We hired a local lady named Nora to drive us around the island. We went to see the stone statues, called
moai. These are the Dum Dums in Night at
the Museum. We saw a group of 15 in one
place, one of them still had their top knot (the thing on their heads that
looks like a hat). Another place we saw
5 of them, near the ship. One of these
had its eyes. Most do not have their
eyes anymore.
I also went swimming here
with some local boys. They were diving
for sea shells. They found 3 while we
were there. We also saw a volcano. There are maoi standing there too. There’s are giant ones carved in the side of
the volcano. We had to wait for cows and
horses to get out of the road in many places.
Tues 1/22/13 At Sea
Today I did school work and went to kids club. We had a special lunch where we made min hamburgers
and we made “mocktails” in the crows nest bar!!
We went for pasta for dinner. We
saw 2 different rainbows ending in the ocean.
